Recognizing PTSD Awareness Day

PTSD Awareness Day Ribbon

Every June 27, we recognize PTSD Awareness Day, a meaningful opportunity to increase understanding of post-traumatic stress disorder and the lasting impact it can have on individuals, including many Veterans, service members, first responders, and others who have experienced trauma. PTSD is a real and serious mental health condition that can develop after exposure to deeply distressing events. Symptoms such as flashbacks, heightened anxiety, irritability, difficulty sleeping, and emotional numbness may appear soon after trauma or sometimes surface long afterward, affecting daily life, relationships, and overall well-being. While the condition can be challenging, it is important to remember that it is also treatable and recovery is possible with the right care and support.

On this day, we stand with all those affected by PTSD and reaffirm our commitment to fostering awareness, compassion, and understanding. No one should feel alone in facing these challenges, and reaching out for help is a strong and important step toward healing. A range of effective treatments and resources are available, including counseling, therapy, and support networks designed to meet individuals where they are in their recovery journey. We encourage anyone who may be struggling, or supporting someone who is, to learn more about symptoms, treatment options, and available assistance at: https://www.ptsd.va.gov/
