25 May May 28th is National Poppy Day!
After World War 1, the Red Poppy flourished in Europe. Scientist attributed the growth to soils in France and Belgium becoming enriched with lime from the rubble left by the war. From the dirt and mud grew a beautiful red poppy. The red poppy became the symbol for blood shed during the battle.
In 1920, the poppy became the official flower of The American Legion family to memorialize the soldiers who fought and died during the war. It serves as a reminder to all Americans of the sacrifices made by our Veterans while protecting our freedoms.
Zeiders honors those who have fallen in the name of liberty, freedom, and democracy and supports the future of those who continue to wear our nation’s uniform. Join us in recognizing this day and learn more about it from the American Legion.
