Happy 250th Birthday to the United States Navy!

Since its founding in 1775 with just two armed vessels tasked with disrupting British forces, the U.S. Navy has grown into the world’s most powerful maritime force. Today, with over 300,000 active-duty Sailors and more than 100,000 in the Ready Reserve, the Navy continues to protect our nation and promote global security.

The Navy embodies the courage, ingenuity, and perseverance that define our country. Its Sailors have not only safeguarded our freedoms at sea but have also contributed to groundbreaking advancements in fields like engineering, nuclear propulsion, radar, sonar, computer science, and even the early development of the internet.

The Navy’s mission to defend freedom, preserve economic prosperity, and ensure the seas remain open and secure remains as vital today as it was nearly 250 years ago.
