04 Aug Happy Birthday Coast Guard!
The United States Coast Guard celebrates its 233rd birthday today. The Coast Guard was created on August 4, 1790, when the first Congress authorized Secretary of Treasury Alexander Hamilton to construct ten vessels, known as “revenue cutters,” to combat smuggling and enforce tariff laws. Hamilton carried out his charge with enthusiasm, which is why he is considered “the father of the Coast Guard.”
The Coast Guards mission is to protect the public, the environment, and U.S. economic interest in the nation’s waterways, along the coast, on international waters, or in any maritime region as required to support national security.
As we celebrate the birthday of the United States Coast Guard, Zeiders sends a special thank-you to our employees who have an affiliation with the Coast Guard as a member, veteran, spouse, child or parents, living everyday Semper Paratus (Always Ready).
