10 Oct Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Fir
st recognized in October 1981, Domestic Violence Awareness Month was created to unite survivors, advocates, and communities in the fight to end domestic violence. Since then, this month has served as a time to educate others about the warning signs of abuse, offer support to those affected, and empower survivors to share their stories.
It’s important to remember that abuse takes many forms. While physical violence may be the most visible, other harmful behaviors, such as verbal abuse, manipulation, stalking, financial control, and emotional coercion, are also forms of domestic violence.
Each year, millions of people across the U.S. experience intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and stalking. These issues affect individuals of all backgrounds and communities—no one is immune, and the impact is far-reaching.
At Zeiders, our Behavioral Health Providers emphasize the importance of speaking out. Breaking the silence helps dismantle stigma and reminds survivors that they are not alone—that support and safety are within reach. Awareness and education are powerful tools. By recognizing the signs of abuse, you may be able to make a difference—and even save a life.
If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, help is available.
Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or visit www.domesticshelters.org to locate resources and support services in your area.
Let’s stand together in awareness, compassion, and action.
