Flag Day

Happy Flag Day in red banner surrounded by two American flags.

Flag Day is June 14th! This day commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States. When the American Revolution broke out in 1775, the colonists were not fighting united under a single flag. Instead, most regiments participating fought under their own flags. To avoid this, the Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia to create the Continental Army, hoping for a more organized battle against its colonial oppressor. This led to the first American flag.

The red, white, and blue were not a coincidence. The founding fathers wanted the colors to have meaning outside of aesthetics. Red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and justice, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance, and justice.

Join Zeiders in celebrating Flag Day by displaying our Nation’s symbol, as many Americans do, in front of homes and businesses to continue a long tradition of honoring the flag, its customs, and courtesies.
