12 Feb Purple Up to Celebrate Military Children
Military children make up a very special part of our nation’s population as they stand in steadfast support of their military family members. According to a recent military demographics report, there are more than 1.7 million military force dependent children. To honor their unique contributions and sacrifices on behalf of our country, each April is designated the Month of the Military Child.
The recognition is part of the legacy of former Defense Secretary Casper Weinberger, who established the commemoration in 1986. During the month, one day is selected as the day to “Purple Up! For Military Kids” and everyone is encouraged to wear purple in recognition of the strength and sacrifices of military connected youth.
Why purple? Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, as it is the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red, and Navy blue. This year Purple Up day will be celebrated on April 13.
Celebrating the Month of the Military Child provides a powerful opportunity to raise awareness and build support to help these children meet the unique challenges they face! It is an opportunity to recognize and thank military children and youth for their heroism, character, courage, sacrifice and continued resilience.
Zeiders joins in recognizing the unique contribution military children make as their close family members serve our nation. We think military kids are remarkable, resilient and just plain awesome!
Please join us in celebrating the Month of the Military Child by joining in the campaign to Purple UP for military kids on April 13!
