May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Millions of Americans will go through their life with feelings of overwhelming sadness or anxiety without ever knowing why. 1 in 5 Americans have a diagnosable mental health condition in any given year, while half of Americans will meet criteria for a diagnosable condition in their life. It is important to bring mental health to the forefront of the medical community, treating conditions of the mind just as we would conditions of the body. If you are experiencing a crisis and need help, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
