Number of Individuals Employed By Small Business: 55,729,092 (50% of total)
Number of New Business Starts: 574,500
Number of Business Terminations: 585,800

 

 

So what do these numbers tell us?

 

From a business and economic development perspective:
There are a tremendous number of people who are self-employed or who work in a small business. Clearly entrepreneurship/small business is the engine that drives our economy.

 

Starting a business is a high-risk proposition … with more terminations than starts.

 

From an educational perspective:
There is a critical need for our

to develop and nurture the business and life skills needed to succeed in an entrepreneurial business environment.
