Memorandums and Business Letters

 

Goals:

  • Introduce the purpose and structure of the Narrative and Direct approach to writing business memorandums and letters

 

Skills:

  • Select appropriate writing approach (narrative or direct) based on the communication situation
  • Write effective narrative and direct formatted memorandums and letters

 

Overview:

Chapter 24 introduces students to both the narrative and direct approach to writing memorandums and letters. Although these concepts are presented as forms of written communication, the same concepts apply to formal and informal oral communications.

Throughout the class activities, students are encouraged to discuss how the receiver's reaction would be different if a different communication approach is utilized.
