Selecting a Business Idea

Goals:

  • Each student selects a business concept they feel is needed, interesting, and possible to do

Skills:

  • Sensitivity to unmet product or service needs
  • Ability to identify potential solutions to fill identified needs

Overview:

Potential business opportunities are all around us. The successful entrepreneur is somebody who can identify a need and is motivated to provide a solution to help fill the need.

Some students already have business ideas while others have no ideas. In this chapter, students discuss their potential business concepts while other students provide thoughts on the pros and cons of their ideas.

Activities stress that opportunity identification begins with a heightened awareness of our environment combined with a belief that solutions are possible.
